‘Last Dragon’ actor Leo O’Brien dies

Actor Leo O’Brien, best known for his role as Richie Green, the spunky little brother in the 1985 film The Last Dragon, died in New York yesterday. He was 41.
Most recently, O’Brien had been trying to restart his acting career, having last appeared on the big screen in New Jack City (1991).

Being a young star… isn’t easy to say the least. Please remember him for the laughs and smiles he gave you. And please send out your deepest prayers for his family.”
Guarriello and O’Brien had been working together on a short independent film written and directed by Guarriello titled I’ve Seen Things.
“Leo had such a wonderful spirit,” wrote Guarriello.

It's Official: Rolling Stones to Play Arena Shows in London, New York Area

LONDON - The Rolling Stones on Monday made official a much-awaited return to the concert stage after taking a break of more than five years, unveiling four arena shows in London and New Jersey.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood posted a video message about their return to live events on YouTube.

"As the crowning glory of their ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations, the rock icons will play to thousands of fans at London's O2 Arena on Nov. 25 and 29, and then across the ocean to perform at the Prudential Center, Newark, near New York, on Dec. 13 and 15," according to a statement.

"They will treat their generations of fans in a must-see, heart-pumping celebration of era-defining tracks such as 'Gimme Shelter,' 'Paint It Black,' 'Jumping Jack Flash,' 'Tumbling Dice,' 'It's Only Rock and Roll,' plus a few surprises and countless other classics from GRRR!," a compilation album set for a November release that will celebrate the band's fiftieth anniversary.

The events will be organized in a partnership between Dainty Group and Virgin Live, a new initiative by Richard Branson's Virgin empire. Also partnering with Dainty is independent TV production giant Endemol, which will co-manage the international digital rights to the Rolling Stones "50 and Counting" shows.

The Stones last played together in August 2007 as their two-year "Bigger Bang" tour came to an end.

The band on Monday didn't comment on its plans beyond the four live dates late this year, although touring saxophonist Bobby Keyes told Billboard last week that more shows are in the works, and Jagger said as much in an interview with BBC2, according to Reuters: "It's not going to be a long tour, the first bit," he said, when asked how many concerts the Stones planned to perform.  Shows at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center, which were expected to be the first New York dates, are still believed to be in the works.

"Everybody loves a celebration, and London and New York are two good places to do it in!" said Jagger. Added Richards: "Sorry to keep you all hanging around, but the waiting is over. I've always said the best place for rock and roll is on the stage, and the same is true for the Stones. I'm here with Mick, Charlie and Ronnie and everything is rocking. See you very soon!"

And Branson said: "Today marks the beginning of Virgin Live, and what a beginning! In the future, Virgin Live plans to make a real difference to how fans experience, interact and enjoy live events -- Virgin Live gigs will be truly people driven."

A new film, Crossfire Hurricane, directed by Brett Morgen, chronicles the key periods of the Stones' career. It will have its world premiere gala on Thursday at the BFI London Film Festival complete with red carpet and the full complement of band members.

Crossfire Hurricane will premiere in the U.S. at the HBO premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York on Nov. 13 and air on HBO two days later.

Rihanna Defends Chris Brown Reconciliation, Denies Cocaine Use

Rihanna graces the November cover of Vogue in a fiery red dress, but it's what she's talking about inside that has everyone talking.

The Bajan pop princess is no stranger to controversy, and for the cover star divulges her inner feelings about a number of hot-button issues that have been following her all year long — namely her reconciliation with Chris Brown.

"To the world, I feel like there's no closure," she tells the fashion magazine. "There's some obsession that's continued even throughout when we weren't friends or couldn't be friends at all. Hated each other. The world hasn't let go. They haven't seen any progress in our friendship, because they don't see anything, really besides the song." The song she speaks of is her much talked about "Birthday Cake" remix featuring Brown, which she admits was totally her idea. "I didn't think it could be anything detrimental to my career," said Rihanna.

Reuniting with Chris Brown hasn't been the only news fodder following her around. In April of this year she was spotted on the shoulders of her bodyguard rolling what looks to be marijuana cigarettes at Coachella. Several media outlets suspected it was harsher drugs, i.e. cocaine. Rihanna adamantly denies those accusations. "They knew what it was," she said. "They knew it was marijuana. It was completely clear to them. I just thought it was uncalled for. I don't do cocaine. I don't like being associated with anything that's untrue."

NELLY'S TOUR BUS DRIVER PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO FELONY CHARGES

The plot thickens in the Nelly tour bus bust.
Last week, the tour bus carrying the St. Louis rapper, 36 small baggies of heroin, ten pounds of marijuana and a gun was pulled over in Sierra Blanca, Texas aka the Tour Bus Drug Bust Capitol of the World. (Willie Nelson, Fiona Apple and Snoop Dogg have all been pulled over and arrested in the small Texas town.)
Nelly quickly denied that any of the illegal substances were his, and the "Just A Dream" rapper's longtime tour bus driver Brian Keith Jones (pictured above) took the blame. Jones was booked into the Hudspeth County Jail on Thursday (Oct. 11) night, but he changed his story the following day by pleading not guilty on Friday to the felony charges. He plans to fight the accusations, reports TMZ.
Nelly took to Twitter to vent his frustrations over the whole case. "I'm not gone front I'm MAD as Hell about this sh#t!!2have some1 who works 4u n who u call a friend 4 ova 10years jeopardize ur life WTF?" he wrote. "That being said he was not only an employee but he was fam some1 who protected my life 4many years! No excuses for wad he did!!!!... My heart goes out to his fam and is kids!!!!"

NAS' FORECLOSED ATLANTA MANSION SOLD IN AUCTION

Life is not so good for Nas. Just because he's a rapper with a recent No.1 album doesn't mean he's immune to the current recession crippling America.
Nasty Nas is the latest victim of the banks after being forced to foreclose on his Atlanta-area home. The rapper purchased the 3,500sq. ft home in 2004 for $585,000 but was unable to foot the mortgage. According to TMZ, Nas owed the bank $507,000 in back payments before it repossessed the home. The house -- located in the Eagle's Landing subdivision south of Atlanta and complete with a pool, gym and game room -- was put up for auction this week and purchased for only $348,500. (Given the whopping $236,500 difference in resale price, the rapper most likely made out of the situation losing less money than if he had put it on the market after the U.S. subprime mortgage crisis.)
The Queens native still has a home in New York City, where he currently resides. Check out more photos of Nas' old pad here.

Microsoft Presses Play on New Xbox Music Service

Xbox Music_All Music
Microsoft is taking on Spotify -- as well as the rest of the streaming music market.

The technology giant on Monday is taking the wraps off of its rebranded digital music service, now called Xbox Music, that promises an all-in-one music experience. It wraps together free, on-demand music streaming, a scan-and-match feature, a download store and artist radio stations.

Microsoft, which spent a year building Xbox Music from the ground up, says the new service is more than a reskinned version of its previous Zune Music offering. The biggest difference is the free on-demand service, which lets users select from a catalog of about 30 million songs. Similar to Spotify, the free tier will be supported by advertising.

Christina Calio, Microsoft's director of industry relations, spearheaded the label negotiations to secure the necessary licenses for the new offering. Calio worked in sales and marketing at Geffen Records from1989 to 2000 before joining Microsoft.

A premium version, for $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, lets subscribers get rid of ads and be able to cache music to listen to when there is no Internet connection. The paid tier also allows users to listen on Xbox 360 game consoles via its Xbox Live online service and on mobile devices running Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system.

The service will begin to roll out this week, first appearing on Xbox 360 game consoles on Oct. 16, followed by tablets and PCs on Oct. 26. Cell phones will get the service after Oct. 29.

For now, Xbox Music can only be accessed on Windows 8 computers and cell phones, Xbox 360 and tablets with the Windows RT operating system. The company plans to add the service to iOS and Android devices sometime next year, according to Xbox Music GM Jerry Johnson.

Xbox Music also strives to unify people's existing digital music library with the tracks available on the service so all the music, whether it's on a user's computer or streamed from the Internet via Microsoft servers, are presented in one place for listeners to choose from.

"We wanted to make it so listening to music doesn't require people to work," Johnson says. "It should just be easy and fun."

Microsoft announced it would launch a new music service back in June, but did not release any details, except to say that the Zune brand would be replaced by its Xbox brand. Though Xbox started as the name for its videogame console, the company said it planned to expand the moniker to all of its digital entertainment endeavors so as to have a unified brand.

Zune "was confusing to consumers because it was not well integrated with other Microsoft products," Johnson says. But with close to 100 million Xbox and Xbox 360 game consoles sold worldwide, the Xbox brand has become far better recognized than Zune, particularly among the young, early adopter demographic that plays games.

Case in point: the music service launch has been carefully orchestrated to coincide with the Oct. 26 launch of the new Windows 8 operating system, which is supported by a massive, $1.5 billion marketing campaign. Xbox Music is also being woven into the company's unveiling on Oct. 29 of a new slate of mobile phones. In addition, the music service will be part of its annual Xbox software update, an overnight ritual that console owners have come to anticipate because it generally delivers a slew of new features and services.

Will the new Xbox Music, with its new bells and whistles, be enough to woo listeners away from Pandora, Spotify and others?

Johnson acknowledges that consumers have a lot of choice, but emphasizes Xbox Music's ability to give customers everything in one place.

"If people want an elegant, fun and integrated experience, Xbox Music is the only single choice out there," he says. "It allows you to have the best music experience on the TV, the tablet, mobile and, eventually, the Web."

What's New in Xbox Music:

-- Free, ad-supported on-demand streaming service

-- Scan-and-match service that lets users listen to their existing music collection from an Internet connection without having to upload songs for which Microsoft has the license.

-- Cloud locker that lets users upload additional song files that Microsoft does not have the licenses for. This feature will not be available until next year

-- Xbox Music will debut in 22 markets internationally, up from the 8 markets that Zune operated in last year
