Grooveshark Co-Founder Josh Greenberg Found Dead

Josh Greenberg, the co-founder of Grooveshark, was found dead on Sunday at his home in Florida. 

The Gainesville Sun is reporting that Greenberg was discovered in bed by his live-in girlfriend, who was away for the weekend, and that there was no immediate sign of foul play, injury or drug use. He was 28.

A police report stated that Greenberg’s girlfriend last saw him Saturday morning before traveling to Orlando. She spoke to him around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday and found him later that evening.

Lori Greenberg, his mother, told the Times that her son had no health problems and that he was in good spirits following the demise of Grooveshark, the music streaming service he co-founded with Sam Tarantino in 2006. The site was shut down in late April following a prolonged legal battle with major labels over copyrights.

"He was excited about potential new things that he was going to start," Lori Greenberg said.

The Gainesville Police Department also confirmed Greenberg's death and explicitly noted the lack of evidence of suicide.

An autopsy was performed on Monday morning. Greenberg is survived by his mother, his brother and his grandparents. A memorial service is being planned.

CBS Radio has announced a restructuring of its management team following last week’s round of layoffs. As part of the shakeup, executive vp of operations and New York market manager Scott Herman has been promoted to chief operating officer, effective immediately. In his new role, Herman will lead local operations across the company’s 117 major market stations.

"Scott has a tremendous reputation in the industry, and is a distinguished representative for radio," said president Andre Fernandez in a post on CBS Radio's website. "He understands CBS Radio’s vision for the future and will provide strength to our senior leadership team as we move forward with a variety of key growth initiatives. Having someone with Scott’s experience collaborating directly with our station management will result in new value for CBS Radio and our partners."

Fernandez also outlined further adjustments to management in a memo to employees, according to reports by RadioInk.com and the RAMP newsletter. Bob Philips will add svp/director of sales to his role as Baltimore market manager, and Marc Rayfield will vacate his managerial post in Philadelphia to assume Herman’s role as head of the New York market.

It was also announced in Fernandez’s memo that Michael Weiss has decided to step down as president of sales to pursue other opportunities. He has held that role since 2007.

Some of the other changes in the offing: evp of programming Chris Oliviero will add oversight of research activities to his responsibilities. Rich Lobel has been given the title of evp and cmo of Altitude, CBS Radio's cross-platform sales unit.

The news follows reports that CBS laid off an estimated 200 staffers on July 13 in a round that eliminated the majority of Radio.com’s editorial staff.
