Hitachi Data Glass: New Glass-Based Data Storage System Would Last For 100 Million Years

Sick of transferring your files from device to device, risking loss and corruption?

Well Japan-based company Hitachi says it has solved our file woes with a new storage system that the company claims can keep data unscathed for 100 million years. Data is etched onto a four layers of a thin sheet of quartz glass using a laser that creates dots that can be read by a standard optical microscope.

Reportedly heat resistant and water resistant, it's also invulnerable to "many chemicals" and unaffected by radio waves. According to Engadget, Hitachi reported the glass enduring 3,500 degrees Fahrenheit for two hours without affecting data quality. PC World reports that just a square inch of the glass can store 40MB of data, which is 5MB more than a square inch of a CD, though that the storage will likely only be useful for archiving.

Originally conceived in 2009, PC World reports that Hitachi had struggled with a speedy write time to make etching of the data timely, but that the company has since resolved the problem and is preparing to introduce the item to consumers in 2015.

However, pricing for the miracle glass has yet to be announced. Tech Report estimates that it will be highly expensive because of additional yet-to-be-developed equipment needed to read and etch the glass.

Some customers will want to use several minutes of a song, while others may just want five seconds of a guitar riff. Send us full versions, and both vocal and instrumental versions if you can. If not, no worries: Vocal versions on their own are fine, too.

What kinds of uses are possible for my music?

Palace Music Group’s clients use music in every kind of production including: television, radio, Internet, film and other media. Possible uses include commercials, promotional spots, and background music on a television show, motion pictures, video games, industrial videos, and websites - anything that benefits from audio enhancement. Most uses are incidental and will only be a few seconds in duration.

What happens when my music gets used?

Palace Music Group will grant a license to a customer for a specific use (Internet, television, etc.) for a specific period of time. The customer will report to and pay Palace Music Group for the use of your song, and Palace Music Group will then, within sixty (60) days of the following June 30 or December 31, send you a check in the negotiated percentage of any license fees or royalties generated by your music.

What can Palace customers do with my music?

Customers can synchronize your music with program material for a specific job and for a set period of time. Examples include a one-year use as background music for an MTV production, or six months as background music on a web site. Customers will be able to edit the tracks if they need to. Other types of production/entertainment service uses are possible and Palace Music Group continues to explore how to put your music to work profitably as new opportunities develop.

Nick Cannon Wants His Kids to 'Help Others'

Nick Cannon loves talking about his twins, Monroe and Moroccan Scott. He's also keenly aware that his kids have it better than he did growing up. TheAmerica's Got Talent host told People at the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Awards Dinner that he wants his kids to "understand that every child isn't as fortunate as they are."

Cannon expressed, "I want [them] to grow up helping others." It's a lesson he learned by watching his grandmother who raised him. "We were low-income, but she was always taking in foster kids. She would help anyone, and it was a good lesson for me growing up."

Earlier this year Cannon was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, a condition that sent him in and out of hospitals for months. Despite his health continuing to improve, he's had one pesky problem he's finally been able to take care of – his teeth. "I just had four root canals within the last 24 hours; other than that, I'm doing really well," he said. "In fact, I couldn't have dental work while I was having my health problems because of blood issues. So it's great that I could finally get the work done. Once my teeth heal up, I'll be in great shape!"

I have this image in my head of what I think an amazing fashion person would look like, and I really just take whatever I would want to wear and I just put it on. I watch like, Steve Jobs interviews, I don’t really watch TV. I stopped watching TV when I turned like ten because my parents were like, ‘TV’s really bad for you.’ I’ll watch movies I like to see, Steve Jobs interviews, something that’s going to make me smart and then go to sleep. I always have to go to sleep with the TV on though. I’m always watching something, I just don’t like watching TV. I don’t like being sold something every five minutes a commercial comes up.[...]We have iPhones now. If I want to see [what my family has] coming up I [would just] Google it.

On Working on ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ With His Dad
It was pretty cool, you know. We were working together and it was fun until we get into a scene and we were both very serious about it but it was cool. It was fun having that experience with my dad ’cause he really taught me a lot of the stuff that he knows. Almost everything he knows about acting in that one movie.

On The Best Advice His Dad Has Ever Given Him
My dad one time told me, he was like, ‘The only time you should lie is when someone’s holding a gun to your head and says ‘Okay, lie or I’m going to shoot you.’ And that really stuck with me. I think about that a lot. I used to not be really honest with girls and then I dropped a song called "Starry Room" and then I started turning over a new leaf. Now, I’m completely honest with girls all the time and they just get mad at me.

Happy 31st Birthday, Serena Williams & Christina Milian

Tennis superstar Serena Williams and singer Christina Milian are blowing out 31 candles, SEPT 26th.

Williams has a lot to celebrate this year. She won Olympic gold in the tennis double and single games; earned her fifth singles title at Wimbledon and grabbed her fourth championship at Flushing Meadows. Her hard work and dedication led her to become the highest paid women in tennis, earning more than $40 million this year.

Milian has also had a year of fabulousness, sharing many moments with her 2-year-old daughter, Violet. The singer and actress is the social media correspondent on The Voice. She also kept busy by making appearances on CBS' A Gifted Man and is in pre-production for a new series called Maid in Miami, where she plays a young maid who dreams of becoming a singer.

Lil Wayne Passes An All-Time Elvis Presley Hot 100 Mark

He'll always be the King of Rock and Roll, but when it comes to the artist with the most Billboard Hot 100 hits, Elvis Presley's longstanding record total gives way to a new stats king: Lil Wayne.

As he debuts as a featured artist (with Chris Brown, Tyga and Wiz Khalifa) on Game's aptly titled "Celebration" at No. 82, the superstar rapper rewrites the mark for the most Hot 100 chart visits. Now with 109 entries, Weezy passes Elvis Presley, who totaled 108 between the chart's 1958 launch and 2003.
 
The "Glee" cast is the only act with more Hot 100 hits than Lil Wayne or Presley, having tallied 204 entries since its 2009 arrival.

Of course, as the "Glee" cast's total is influenced by the act releasing multiple singles digitally week-by-week (the bulk of which have charted due to sales exclusively, absent of radio support), Lil Wayne's sum is likewise partly a product of the era of rappers sharing credit on each other's tracks. Weezy has been the lead artist on 42 - or only 39% - of his Hot 100 hits, showing as a featured act on his other 67. Presley was billed as the lead artist on all 108 of his chart hits. The King's still-highest sum of the most Hot 100 hits as a lead solo artist seems safe, given that the next-closest solo acts with the most entries as leads are James Brown (91), Aretha Franklin (73) and Ray Charles (72).
 
Also notably, Presley's career, and some of his signature hits, like "Heartbreak Hotel," "Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog," predated the Hot 100. As Presley placed a hefty 31 titles on pre-Hot 100 Billboard airplay/sales/jukebox charts between just 1956 and summer 1958, according to Joel Whitburn's "Top Pop Singles" reference book, he likely would've sent approximately that many more songs onto the Hot 100 had it existed when he arrived.
 
Presley's Hot 100 span encompasses the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception through Oct. 4, 2003 (45 years and two months), when "Rubberneckin' " ranked at No. 100 after peaking at No. 94. Lil Wayne has passed Presley's total over 13 years and three months, having first appeared the week of July 10, 1999.
 
While making approximately two-thirds of his Hot 100 visits in featured roles, Lil Wayne has still enjoyed laudable Hot 100 accolades. He's notched two No. 1s: 2008's "Lollipop" and 2009's "Down," on which he assisted Jay Sean. Fifty-seven of his Hot 100 entries have reached the top 40 and 17, the top 10 (compared to Presley's 80 and 25, respectively).
