Supreme Court Upholds Obama's Health Care Law

In a landmark Supreme Court showdown, President Obama and Democratic officials finally won in the long battle over the nation's health care law.

According to the New York Times, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the "government may use its taxation powers to push people to buy health insurance."

Though the 5-4 ruling is a win for Obama and liberal party members, who have been battling conservatives since the law's proposal in 2010, there is one major setback: restricting the expansion of Medicaid, the government health-insurance program for low-income and sick people.

Still, Obama took to the air to express his joy. "Today's decision was a victory for people all over this country whose lives are more secure because of this law," the President said in a televised White House statement.

The ruling is sure to impact the upcoming November election and pose new challenges such as Republicans calling for repeal of the Affordable Care Act passed by Democrats in 2010.
