Mariah Carey Becomes Judge on 'American Idol'

Just when the judges' table looked like it was tearing at the seams, American Idol got their dollars up and landed Mariah Carey.

After claims from her hubby Nick Cannon that A.I. had to double ex-judge Jennifer Lopez's pay to get the mother Lamb, it seemed that other divas rumored to take the singing throne (like Aretha Franklin) would surely occupy the hot seat.

MC took to Twitter to express her excitement for joining the singing competition.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly is excited about the major get. “It’s the biggest recording artist than any of these [singing competition] shows have ever had,” Reilly told critics at their press tour in Beverly Hills on Monday. “It’s an artist many of these contestants have tried to emulate. [The deal] only concluded only hours ago. Not being the only game in town we need to keep things fresh.”

It also helps that seasoned judge Randy Jackson is her manager and was involved in negotiations. The new gig comes after Carey recently announced the release of her next single "Triumphant" that features Rick Ross and Meek Mill due early August. A fitting title.
