Frank Ocean suddenly pulled himself out of the line-up for Sweden's
Way Out West festival yesterday and has canceled a long string of other
European dates, including a stadium tour with Coldplay, Billboard reports.
Ocean had performed four songs at the Oya Festival in Norway on
Friday, but brought the appearance to an early end, which festival
announcers said was due to his losing his voice. Whether Ocean's vocal
problems are the reason behind his tour cancellations remains unclear.
A statement on the Way Out West festival's website yesterday
read: "Frank Ocean has just informed us that he will be unable to
perform this evening at Way Out West. Both Frank Ocean and we hoped for
the best, but unfortunately he will not be performing."
Way Out West also posted a statement from Ocean – which, while deeply
apologetic, offers little explanation. "Let me start by saying I feel
like an asshole right now," the singer's statement says, "but a tough
decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next months
and the casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming
festivals in Europe and my opening slot on the European leg of the
Coldplay world tour. Sorry as fuck, I'll be back if you'll have me."
In addition to the ten-city Coldplay tour that was to begin at the
end of August, Ocean has canceled appearances at Flow Festival,
Pukkelpop, V Festival and Bestival.
