Razor & Tie today announced that Mike Gitter has joined
its A&R team. Gitter, who has worked in A&R for labels
that include Roadrunner and Atlantic Records and is based out of Los
Angeles, will work closely with Razor & Tie's head of A&R
Pete Giberga and SVP of Marketing John Franck.
Gitter spent a dozen years in the A&R department at Roadrunner, where he signed heavy metal bands like Killswitch Engage, Megadeth and DragonForce. Prior to that, the former hardcore fanzine editor and freelance journalist for magazines such as Kerrang!, RIP and Tower Records' Pulse worked in the A&R department at Atlantic Records, where he signed bands including Bad Religion, Jawbox and CIV.
After
his tenure at Roadrunner, Gitter relocated from New York City to
Los Angeles to take an A&R job with Century Media Records. He
worked as VP of A&R for about a year until early 2011, staying
on as a consultant until earlier this year. He next began working
with Fear Factory manager Scott Koenig at King Artist Management and
briefly did a bit of consulting for Napalm Records, as well.
New York based independent label Razor & Tie is home to heavier acts like All That Remains, Shadows Fall, P.O.D. and Norma Jean, as well as Vanessa Carlton, Foreigner and several successful children's brands. Gitter will remain in Los Angeles.
"Razor & Tie is already a growing force in the world of cutting edge music," Gitter said in a statement. "It has an energy and vitality that only happens once in the evolution of a company and it's a privilege to be asked to be part of it."
The
Razor & Tie position will see him working alongside the
company's head of A&R, Pete Giberga (ex-Epic Records) and SVP of
Marketing John Franck, who was previously with eOne. "Mike brings
to the table serious A&R chops and a level of expertise that we
find critical to our success as a company," Giberga said. "I
couldn't be happier that someone with his vision, creativity and
credibility is going to be a part of our team."
The statement says that Gitter "will also be involved with Razor & Tie's expanding palette of business ventures."
The news comes on the heels of the announcement that Gitter's longtime Roadrunner colleague Monte Conner has joined Nuclear Blast.
