Houston Cop Kills 1-Armed, 1-Legged Man Because He "Feared For His Safety"

On Saturday (September 22), a Houston police officer shot and killed a one-armed, one-legged man who was in a wheelchair, reports the Associated Press. According the police officer, the double amputee waved a metal object at him which made the cop feel threatened enough to shoot him. What was said metal object? A pen.
Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva said the man cornered the officer in his wheelchair and was making threats while trying to stab the officer with the pen. At the time, the officer did not know what the metal object was that the man was waving, Silva said.
She said the man came "within inches to a foot" of the officer and did not follow instructions to calm down and remain still.
"Fearing for his partner's safety and his own safety, he discharged his weapon," Silva told The Associated Press.
Police did not immediately release the name of the man who was killed. They had been called to the home after a caretaker there called and reported that the man in wheelchair was causing a disturbance.
According the owner of the group, the dead man, who lost a leg above the knee and entire arm after being hit by a train, had a history of mental illness.
Just so we're clear here, not one but TWO officers were came to deal with a mentally disturbed, double amputee in a wheelchair, who ends up dead. Does that seem like sound police work to anyone? Or is this a cop—Matthew Jacob Marin, a five-year vet who shot and killed man who allegedly refused to drop a knife in 2009—with an itchy trigger finger?
