-- The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) has organized a songwriters' showcase for Nov. 28, the same day as the House Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, Competition and the Internet is holding hearings on music licensing. The event, which will take place at the Rayburn House Office Building, is aimed at getting the message across to legislatures that "Pandora's efforts to reduce royalty rates will hurt songwriters and music publishers. In 2011," the trade association said in a statement, claiming that, "Pandora paid songwriters and music publishers only 4 percent of their total revenue."
The songwritesr will perform songs they wrote or co-wrote and will include Kara DioGuardi's who will play "Sober" recorded by Pink; Linda Perry who will play "Beautiful" recorded by Christina Aguilera; Desmond Child who will do "Livin' on a Prayer" recorded by Bon Jovi; BC Jean singing "If I Were a Boy" recorded by Beyoncé; and Lee Miller performing "You're Gonna Miss This" recorded by Trace Adkins.
In other moves, the NMPA has appointed Spirit Music founder and president to the organization's board of directors. Meanwhile, Broadcast Music Inc. announced the election of Steven W. Newbury, president and CEO of the 22-station Commonwealth Broadcasting Corp., to its board of directors
