It lasted 2 minutes and 59 seconds, but Manny Pacquiao was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez in six rounds following a hard right punch from the Mexican boxer.
The fight was relatively quick in comparison to the last three times the boxers met in the ring. Those fights ended in two decisions and a draw. "I am giving him a chance to prove he can win the fight because he thought he has won all three and he keeps talking about it," Pacquiao told the AP about his reasons for fighting Marquez again.
On Saturday night at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena, Pacquiao had an early lead up until things got tied up in Round 3. The fight was always close. Marquez was ahead by only one point at the end of Round 4 (48-47), and Pacquiao ahead by a point at the end of Round 5 (57-56.) By the sixth round, Marquez's nose was bleeding and it appeared to be broken as he was breathing through his mouth, but he was able to land a hard punch that took Pacquiao out cold.
The night wasn't entirely a loss for Pacquiao. The Pacman was promised at least $23 million for the fight, while Marquez was only guaranteed $6 million. Pacman also got to meet Mitt Romney, although that could now be considered a bad omen, considering they both lost.
As for that Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight everyone still wants to see, check out the following video talk with Pacman's trainer Freddie Roach this month on the topic below.
