David Alvarado, the former VP of marketing and promotion for EMI Music/Capitol Latin, has been named VP of entertainment publicity for Telemundo Media, effective immediately.
Alvarado will be based in Miami, reporting to Alfredo Richard, SVP of Communications and Talent Strategy.
In his new role, Alvarado is responsible for leading the publicity efforts for Telemundo's alternative and prime time programming and productions, as well as working closely with Telemundo’s talent department to strategically position Telemundo's prime time stars across electronic, print and online media platforms. Alvarado will oversee publicity strategies for all network program launches.
"David brings to the Communications team a deep understanding of the Hispanic market and audience across the country," said Richard. "His arrival reinforces and is consistent with the fact that we are the Hispanic Hollywood and hold the largest roster of Spanish-speaking stars in the U.S. Hispanic market.”
Alvarado comes form the music side of the business. Prior to his Telemundo post, he was VP of marketing and promotion for EMI Music/Capitol Latin until the company merged with Universal and worked with artists like Juan Luis Guerra and A.B. Quintanilla. Alvarado also had his own consultant firm and from 2004 to 2006 was Paulina Rubio’s personal manager.
Alvarado is the second recently appointed Telemundo executive to come from the music world. Last month, the company named Mario Ruiz to the new role of SVP of talent development and strategy, responsible for developing and and executing Telemundo Media’s overall on-air talent business strategy. Ruiz was formerly VP of Talent for Univision and since 2011, consultant and executive producer for the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
He is also based out of Miami and reports to Richard.
Alvarado replaces Suzette Millo, who left Telemundo this past January and is now in MundoFox.
