AZ had a fairy tale introduction to the rap game and BET has
produced mini-documentary around the making of his 1995 classic debut album Doe
Or Die.
As a part of their #20YrsLtr documentary series, BET is
telling the story of AZ’s classic with contributions from Nas, Pete Rock, Foxy
Brown, Daddy O and other key contributors to the album’s success. Narrated by
Rakim, the Doe Or Die documentary walks listeners through the creation of the
album, its impact and the aftermath of AZ’s career.
While AZ is rarely if ever mentioned in the Mount Rushmore
of 90’s East Coast Hip-Hop [Nas, Biggie, Jay Z, Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan], the
documentary makes the case for AZ to be included despite having the
“underrated” tag on his name for all of his career.
