Chad Johnson Cut By The Miami Dolphins

One day after being arrested on domestic battery charges, wide receiver Chad Johnson has been cut by the Miami Dolphins.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter:
The six-time Pro Bowl receiver was released on $2,500 bond Sunday after his wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their home. Johnson was charged with simple domestic battery, a misdemeanor.
The confrontation came barely a month after Johnson married Evelyn Lozada, who is on the reality TV show "Basketball Wives."
Johnson, 34, has been battling for a spot on the team after a disappointing season with the New England Patriots in 2011.
Only five days earlier, first-year Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said Johnson's roster spot could be in jeopardy if he didn't temper his freewheeling behavior. Johnson annoyed the coach by frequently using profanity during a session with reporters.
We will keep you up-to-date as more news breaks in the Chad Johnson - Evelyn Lozada headbutt-gate.

Frank Ocean Pulls Out of Coldplay Tour

Frank Ocean suddenly pulled himself out of the line-up for Sweden's Way Out West festival yesterday and has canceled a long string of other European dates, including a stadium tour with Coldplay, Billboard reports.
Ocean had performed four songs at the Oya Festival in Norway on Friday, but brought the appearance to an early end, which festival announcers said was due to his losing his voice. Whether Ocean's vocal problems are the reason behind his tour cancellations remains unclear.

A statement on the Way Out West festival's website yesterday read: "Frank Ocean has just informed us that he will be unable to perform this evening at Way Out West. Both Frank Ocean and we hoped for the best, but unfortunately he will not be performing."

Way Out West also posted a statement from Ocean – which, while deeply apologetic, offers little explanation. "Let me start by saying I feel like an asshole right now," the singer's statement says, "but a tough decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next months and the casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming festivals in Europe and my opening slot on the European leg of the Coldplay world tour. Sorry as fuck, I'll be back if you'll have me."

In addition to the ten-city Coldplay tour that was to begin at the end of August, Ocean has canceled appearances at Flow Festival, Pukkelpop, V Festival and Bestival.

Chad & Evelyn Tell Cops Conflicting Stories

Chad Johnson and his wife Evelyn Lozada got into an altercation over the weekend, which ended with him being sent to jail and her being sent to the hospital.

While it was originally reported that Chad head-butted Evelyn over an argument about a stray condom receipt, police reports now cite conflicting stories.

Chad, who was released by the Miami Dolphins following the incident, told the police that Evelyn head-butted him.

TMZ reports:
The officer said when he spoke to Johnson, he admitted the two argued, but said she yelled "F**k it!" at him and then she head-butted him.
This is a complete contrast to what Evelyn told police. The Basketball Wives star said Chad screamed:
"I don't give a f**k! I don't give a f**k about my career!"
Consider that this is Chad's first off the field incident of his career and first run-in with the law in his entire life, which Johnson's lawyer pointed out during his bail hearing.
"Mr. Johnson has been a resident of the state of Florida for pretty much his entire life. He has no prior offenses, and essentially, we're asking for the court to set a standard bond."
There is a popular saying that goes, there's her side, his side and then there's the truth. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Digital glasses pioneer allegedly assaulted by McDonald’s staff for wearing his high-tech specs

Digital glasses pioneer Steve Mann was enjoying a vacation in Paris with his family recently when staff at a McDonald's there allegedly assaulted him for wearing his high-tech headgear.

Google’s forthcoming augmented reality glasses are set to change the way we interact with our environment, providing new ways to deal with our surroundings, as well as allowing us to record what’s going on around us at any given time.

However, if digital eyeglasses pioneer Steve Mann’s recent experience is anything to go by, the high-tech specs may be more trouble than they’re worth.

The Toronto University professor, who’s been experimenting with various head-based computer vision systems for over 30 years, claims he was assaulted in a McDonald’s restaurant in Paris by a number of employees for wearing his EyeTap digital eyeglass, a single eyepiece incorporating a camera that improves the vision of its wearer – and which bears more than a passing resemblance to Google’s recently unveiled super-specs.

In an account of his experience posted on his blog on Tuesday, Mann said the incident took place while he was on vacation with his family in the French capital earlier this month. While waiting in line at a branch of McDonald’s on the Champs Elysees, a person identifying himself as a member of staff approached him and asked about the digital vision system that he was wearing. In response, Mann produced various documentation relating to the system, which included a letter from his doctor. The employee then let Mann go about his business.

After ordering a meal, Mann and his family sat at a table inside the restaurant. But the next moment, things took a turn for the worse. A different employee came over and, Mann alleges, assaulted him. “He angrily grabbed my eyeglass, and tried to pull it off my head,” he wrote in his blog post. “The eyeglass is permanently attached and does not come off my skull without special tools.” It must have been quite a tussle.
Three employees then spent some time taking a closer look at his documentation before one of them “angrily crumpled and ripped up the letter” from Mann’s doctor.

It won’t surprise you to learn that Mann captured the incident using his well-secured headgear and posted some photos from the incident in his post (below is one of the guy tearing up his letter). The clarity of the photo is a testament to the awesomeness of his high-tech device – although of course these are photos Mann would have preferred not to have had to take.

So why all the fuss? What had Mann done to upset the staff this much? After doing some research, the professor discovered another person who claimed to have been assaulted in a McDonald’s in Paris – for the dastardly deed of trying to photograph the menu.

Goodness me, it’s one thing to be asked to refrain from using photographic devices in a particular location, but it’s something else altogether to have employees trying to tear a photographic device from your head without explanation.

Mann is now in the process of trying to contact McDonald’s about the incident, but said that so far he’s received no response from the fast food giant.

“I’m not seeking to be awarded money. I just want my Glass fixed, and it would also be nice if McDonald’s would see fit to support vision research,” he wrote at the end of his post.

All in all a bizarre, as well as unsettling, story, but hopefully not a sign of things to come if Google gets its AR glasses marketed on a mass scale.

How To Utilize Your Social Media Networks

In today’s digital music age, every band has (or at least should have) a social media page dedicated to their music.  Whether it is Facebook, Twitter, or Google+, you want to make your band’s music and information easily available to people on the internet.  And while it is a great idea to be on all the major social networks, it’s not always good to treat them all the same.  You should strive to create a unique experience for each network that engages your users in different ways.  So here are a few tips to help accomplish that.

A great way to keep fans engaged is by having a contest on one of your social media sites.  For example, if your band is playing a show in Phoenix this week, you can post on Twitter offering free tickets to the first 10 people who retweet your post.  This can be very effective because not only does it help spread the word about your show, but now you have fans coming out to your show who will be more willing to spend money on your merchandise since they didn’t have to pay for a ticket.  The same can be done with Facebook.  One example is to offer free merchandise to fans that post pictures and videos of your show.  Or if you’re promoting a new music video, you could also offer prizes to the first 10 people who share your new video on their wall.

Another way to keep your fans engaged is to offer exclusive content only available on certain social media networks.  If you post new pictures to both Facebook and Twitter every time, you’re not giving your fans a reason to check each site anymore.  Some users have a personal preference between Facebook and Twitter so you want to give them a reason to keep coming back to your Facebook posts or keep following your tweets.

Each network has its own strengths so you should try and play up to them.  Facebook can be great for introducing new fans to your music.  Having a well-written bio, hi-def pictures, a music player, and a newsletter signup are essential to any Facebook page.  If a new fan is checking out your page for the first time, you want to make a good impression so they’re more likely to check out your website and become a dedicated fan.  After you’ve hooked that new fan, you now want them to get a better feel for who you are and what your music is all about.  This is where Twitter can be very effective.  If you’re heading to the studio today to record vocals for a new track, then tweet that.  Or if you just played a great show, take a picture on stage and share it so that your fans can get a sense of what it’s like on the other side of the stage.  People love connecting with their favorite artists and Twitter can be a great tool to help accomplish that.

And while it’s good to differentiate the content on your social media sites, the one thing you do want to keep consistent is your image.  I think it goes without saying that if you’re a heavy metal band, you’d want to change your Twitter page from the default sky blue setting to something else a little more appropriate.  If your band’s color scheme consists of white and blue, then you should try incorporating those colors into both your Facebook and Twitter pages.  Having a custom band logo can be very effective for this as it immediately lets the user know exactly what they’re checking out.
