Born in New Jersey on June 19, 1978, the Dominican Republic-raised actress first burst onto the big screen in 2000, playing the headstrong and talented dancer Eva in Center Stage.
In the years to come the Black Women in Hollywood honoree would make her mark in several major films from Star Trek, Colombiana and the wildly successful Avatar.
In the immediate future, the actress will release The Words co-starring Bradly Cooper and Olivia Wilde. In 2013, Saldana will release three films, the Star Trek sequel, Out of Furnace and Blood Ties, which she's currently filming.
