Focused on the reggae legend's life between 1975 and the tail-end of 1977, the story of "Marley" will include the assassination attempt and a self-imposed isolation in England when he recorded "Exodus" and "Kaya."

"Biopics and musicals that cover people's lives are invariably difficult," "Marley" playwright and Center Stage artistic director Kwame Kwei-Armah tells Billboard. "The attempt is to make this into the jukebox musical that doesn't smell of jukebox musical. The idea is to let it come out of the truth of the play."

The musical will include crowd-pleasers for Marley's band the Wailers such as "I Shot the Sheriff" and "No Woman, No Cry" as well as the songs that appear on "Exodus," "Kaya" and the other album he made in the show's time frame "Rastaman Vibration."

Blue Mountain Music, which holds the publishing rights to Marley's catalogue, approached Kwei-Armah to write a fictional show that incorporated the artist's songs without focusing on Marley's life. Once that show never materialized -- and with the life rights secured from Marley's heirs -- Kwei-Armah created a fact-based a bio-musical.

Though not serving as producers, Marley family members are involved in the development and writing of the show. Kwei-Armah says he has read lines to family members to determine whether Marley would have said what he wrote.

"When it comes to our father's work and legacy, we have always been mindful in selecting the artists with whom we choose to collaborate," the artist's daughter Cedella Marley said in a press statement. "We couldn't be more excited about the team that is assembled for this project."

New York's Public Theater is involved with Baltimore Center Stage as creative collaborators on "Marley" though there are no definite plans for a New York run. Kwei-Armah allows that producers, whom he declines to name, have provided enhancement money for the Baltimore production.

"Primarily we are here to produce this piece for Baltimore Center Stage," he says. "If we construct it correctly, with the reputation that someone like Bob Marley has, we expect it and would like it to have legs and move on."

Kid Ink Can't Catch A Break, Dog Tears Up Pizza Delivery Guy

by Cyrus Langhorne

California rapper Kid Ink is having a tough week days after being arrested in Las Vegas as new reports claim a pizza delivery person has sought legal action against him.

According to reports, the delivery man claims Ink's dog viciously attacked him.

Garnik Nazarian claims Kid ordered a pie delivered to his Granada Hills home ... and when he showed up at the front door, Kid's dog -- Louie -- attacked him ... chomping down on his hands, arms, legs, face and other body parts. Nazarian -- claims Kid should've known Louie was "unusually dangerous" and prone to attack ... and should've kept the animal locked up. (TMZ)

Reports claim Nazarian not only wants medical expenses covered but also extra compensation.

According to the lawsuit ... Nazarian's injuries are so bad, he won't be able to deliver pizzas for a long time to come. So, in addition to medical bills and pain and suffering, he wants lost profits. BTW ... the lawsuit is a little wonky. In California and most states, a dog bite victim doesn't have to prove the pooch was unusually dangerous or prone to attack. When dog bites a person ... owner pays -- period. (TMZ)

A few days ago, Ink downplayed the seriousness behind his Sin City arrest.

The rapper tells Billboard that has no concerns that the charges in Las Vegas will be an issue. Asked about what happened Friday night, when it is alleged a scuffle broke out around 2 a.m. following his appearance at 1 OAK, he just says, "It's all good. I'm just looking forward to taking my tour overseas in the next few days." (Billboard)
Coincidentally, Ink appeared in good spirits on social media Sunday (August 17).

"Love all my fans who showed support today," Ink tweeted August 17. (Kid Ink's Twitter)

The anniversary doc is Beats' second video in recent months. Back in June, the company released a short film surrounding the World Cup that featured soccer stars including Neymar, Daniel Sturridge and Jozy Altidore, as well as appearances by Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.

Another Key Hot 97 Exec Dips: "...Not Going To Competitor"

by Cyrus Langhorne

Weeks after radio veteran Angie Martinez packed her bags and started a new career at New York's Power 105.1 station, Hot 97 music director Karlie Hustle has announced her resignation.

Much like Martinez, Hustle relied on social media platform Instagram to reveal the big news heading into the weekend.

"I've made the decision to resign my position as Music Director at Hot 97. I will remain through the end of the month to assist in the transition of duties. SIDEBAR: No. I am not going to a New York radio competitor. Thanks to Ebro Darden, I've spent the past three years living my dream in New York City, working at what I believe to be the most important radio station in the world. I've been empowered to run the Hot 97 Who's Next Live platform and the Summer Jam Festival Stage. I've appeared on a TV show and had the chance to guest host on the morning show as a fill-in. I've been a part of launching the careers of future stars from behind the scenes. These are amazing experiences that I cannot express proper gratitude for here. These past few years have given me the confidence and the enhanced platform to start my own business." (Karlie Hustle's Instagram)
Karli also revealed where she would take her career following the stint at Hot 97.

"I will redirect my time and attention fully to my #HustleBowTie endeavor and the overall K. Hustle brand (buy a tie dammit: karliehustle.com ????). I will also be taking time to explore a host of new possibilities that I've been afforded as the result of the 13 years, six cities and six radio stations it's taken for me to arrive at this juncture. I'm excited to step out on my own two once again and see what I'm truly made of. I'll never forget the team at Hot 97 for being so warm and embracing this girl from the West so fully. Thank you all!" (Karlie Hustle's Instagram)

Recent reports claimed Angie's new salary would double since joining the Power 105.1 family.

Music insiders are buzzing that when popular disc jockey Angie Martinez jumped ship to Power 105. 1 two weeks ago, after 15 years at Hot 97, she doubled her pay. Sources tell Page Six that Clear Channel, which owns Power 105.1, offered Martinez a figure in the "high six figures." Martinez, who was a co-host of Hot 97's "Afternoon Drive" broadcast with DJ Enuff, will be hosting two four-hour shows in New York and Miami (Martinez's rep had no comment). (Page Six)

While brief with his words, music mogul Dame Dash recently applauded Angie for packing her bags after decades at the iconic spot.

"Big shout-out to Angie Martinez," Dame said in an interview. "I knew she could do it one day. I'm glad she did that. It's time for her. She's talented. I don't know what happened but freedom is beautiful. She's gonna love that." (VLAD TV)

New ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’

The critically acclaimed color processing technique pioneered by Robert Rodriguez in 2005’s Sin City returns nearly a decade later in the red band trailer for the film’s sequel, which debuted at Comic-Con 2014 in San Diego.

The trailer for the neo-noir action thriller boasts technological improvements to the already cutting-edge visual effects of the first film, and features an especially intense Jessica Alba smoking in the trailer’s opening scene. Lady Gaga makes a cameo appearance as a waitress who gives Joseph Gordon-Levitt a dollar bill that will “take him to the moon.”

Like the original film, A Dame to Kill For pieces together several intertwining stories from Frank Miller’s graphic novel series Sin City. In the sequel, most plot lines are pulled from his second book, “A Dame To Kill For,” although Miller also draws from his sixth book’s short story “Just Another Saturday Night” and two original stories created exclusively for the film.

In one plot line, Dwight McCarthy, played by series newcomer Josh Brolin, is manipulated by former lover Ava Lord (Eva Green) and must combat her abusive, billionaire husband (Marton Csokas) and his bodyguard (Dennis Haysbert), all the while blind to Lord’s true intentions. Joseph Gordon-Levitt debuts as Johnny, a gambler who attempts to take down the most powerful man in Sin City, Senator Roark (Powers Boothe), and meanwhile Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, and Mickey Rourke follow up the events of “That Yellow Bastard” in the first installment of the series. Sin City: A Dame To Kill For will be released Aug. 22 by Dimension Films.

***TOP STORY--See Mike Brown's Shooter Pictures, See the Photos; Cop Exposed

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

A week after the controversial shooting of teenager Mike Brown, photos of the police officer responsible for taking his life have surfaced online.

Facebook photos of 28-year-old officer Darren Wilson hit the Internet this weekend.

NBC News has verified that a photo first shown on Yahoo News is indeed of the Ferguson, Mo., police officer who fatally shot unarmed teenager Michael Brown, touching off a week of angry protests that have at times turned violent. The photo, obtained from Facebook, is from Wilson's father's page, posted on February 11 after an award ceremony where the officer earned a commendation for his "extraordinary effort in the line of duty," Yahoo reported. (NBC News)
Although upset by Brown's controversial death, rap star Nelly recently said Missouri residents should realize resorting to violence is not the best move.

Nelly tells TMZ ... "I understand the frustration, but we have to strategize before we overreact ... We don't get no do-over on sh*t like this, so we have to do it right the first time." The rapper adds, "Ain't nothing happen no different that hasn't been happening ... At the end of the day, we should have waited to strategize first and take all the right steps to organize." (TMZ)

Heading into the weekend, Roc Nation's J. Cole directly addressed Brown's death with the release of a new tribute song.

In the wake of the police shooting that left African-American teenager Michael Brown dead, J. Cole responds by penning a powerful and emotional plea. Over a bare bones beat, the Roc Nation MC cries out for freedom and justice. "All we wanna do is take the chains off / All we wanna do is be free," sings a grief-stricken Cole. "Rest in Peace to Michael Brown and to every young black man murdered in America, whether by the hands of white or black," said Cole. "I pray that one day the world will be filled with peace and rid of injustice. Only then will we all Be Free." (Rap-Up)

Along with performing with a Mike Brown shirt, rap star Jeezy has relied on social media to to speak out on the teen's death.

"It's a shame in today's Society we have to protect our loved ones from those who are sworn to protect us. We have to stand strong together and let our voices be heard across the nation. We will not tolerate innocent children being slain. Michael Brown may you rest with the Angels!!! #saveourchildren #St.Louisstandup," Jeezy captioned to a photo of Mike Brown.

Spotify Begins Rollout of Expansion to Canada

A month after announcing its expansion to Canada, Spotify has begun sending out invites to select potential users of the music streaming service. The Swedish startup confirmed that invites have been going out, but refused to comment on the timing of a full-fledged launch in Canada.

"Congratulations -- you're in!" the email invite says, according to 9to5Mac. "You've been chosen to try Spotify in Canada before everyone else!"

In June, a Spotify source told us that the service's Canadian launch was not far off, but declined to offer specifics, other than that they "want to bring Spotify to everyone everywhere."

Earlier this year, Google Play expanded in the country, which has been a tough market to break into for streaming services. In 2010, Pandora declined launch in Canada because Re:Sound, the country's royalty agency, wanted to charge 45 percent of the site's gross revenues.

Thanks to the lack of competition, Songza, a U.S.-based playlist curation site, has gained a foothold in the streaming market since launching in 2012. Google announced its purchase of Songza in July. Other competing streaming services include Deezer, Rdio, Sony Music Unlimited, and Xbox Music.

According to The Globe and Mail, Copyright Board of Canada ruled in May that streaming services should pay a little over 10 cents in royalties for every 1,000 plays. Whether that played a role in Spotify's decision to move in is unclear.
