HBO has announced that they will air a new documentary on the Rolling Stones this fall. The
exact date has yet to be determined. "This is all done as part of the
band's 50th anniversary," said HBO President of Programming Michael
Lombardo in a statement. "This documentary has the full involvement of
the four current band members – Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ron – as well
as the former band members Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor. We'll follow the
band from their early club days through their arrival as the greatest
band in the world."
The film will be directed by documentary filmmaker Brett Morgan, best known for The Kid Stays in the Picture. "Nobody has put the story together as a narrative," Morgan told Rolling Stone
in March. "We've been looking under every rock, going through their
archives. It will be music never heard before, and I've conducted
50-plus hours of interviews so far. By the time we're done, they will be
the most extensive group interviews they've ever done."
Rumors have been flying for months about an upcoming Rolling Stones
50th anniversary tour. Mick Jagger said recently that the group might
perform live as soon as this autumn. "You will definitely be seeing us
all together soon," he said last month. "It's been great fun being back
together and there are a lot of memories in here. I can't believe it's
been 50 years. We've been hanging out together, seeing quite a bit of
each other and we want to do some gigs."
The Rolling Stones haven't performed together since their Bigger Bang tour, which ended in August 2007.
