Carly Rae Jepsen Sued For Allegedly Stealing "Call Me Maybe"

Carly Rae Jepsen Sued For Allegedly Stealing Call Me Maybe

Carly Rae Jepsen is under fire again. A Ukrainian songwriter has accused the Canadian pop star of theft, insisting "Call Me Maybe" was derived from her Christmas song "Hunky Santa." A suit filed in Los Angeles by Aza's attorney Barry Rothman is asking for an unspecified amount of damages.

"I'm shocked and surprised that these people wanted to sample my lyrics on their song," Aza told TMZ. "They didn't ask me for permission, they just took it. That's why I filed this lawsuit. When I first heard it on the radio, I was driving and almost got into an accident. I couldn't believe what I was hearing."

Jepsen's rep slammed the suit as "false" insisting, "This is completely false and [Carly's] lawyers will deal with this. Everyone knows [Carly] is a songwriter. She is not spending a lot of time listening to Ukrainian radio."

Scooter Braun, who manages Jepsen and Justin Bieber was also named in the suit.

Jepsen is currently dealing with another copyright dispute. An Alabama-based singer-songwriter sued her for an alleged infringement on a duet with Owl City entitled "Good Time."
