It's official: Joel Klaiman is now the executive vice president and general manager of Columbia Records, according to an announcement made by label CEO and chairman Rob Stringer. Klaiman, who was formerly EVP at Universal Republic, will overseeing Columbia's promotional staff.

At Universal Republic Klaiman was involved in new artist strategies and behind now-household names like Gotye, Amy Winehouse and PSY. Previously, at Epic records, Klaiman worked in radio development on a diverse roster of artists including Korn, Fiona Apple, and Celine Dion.

Joel began his career in 1990 as a manager at Frank DiLeo Managemen and worked as a senior promotions director at Elektra before joining the Epic Records Group in 1996 as a VP. In 1998, he was named VP of promotions of Sony 550 Music and then VP promotions for Epic Records Group. In 2006, he was appointed EVP of promotion at Epic.
As Billboard.biz previously reported, Klaiman's naming to the EVP/GM role appears to be part of an executive shuffle that followed the exit of Columbia COO and co-chairman Steve Barnett, who is now Capitol Music Group's chairman and CEO.
