Executive Greg Marella has joined Kemosabe Records as executive vice president. The label, headed by hitmaker Dr. Luke, is a joint venture with Sony Music.
Marella arrives from Interscope Geffen A&M where he was vice president of promotion. His career in the music business began at Priority records in 1995 as west coast regional director. From there, he went to work at MCA Records, where he handled such acts as Blink-182 and Mary J. Blige.Following MCA's absorption by Interscope-Geffen-A&M in 2003, Marella stayed on and spent the next decade spearheading promotional campaigns for the likes of Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Ellie Goulding, Imagine Dragons, Robin Thicke and Zedd, among others.
Launched in Oct. 2011, Kemosabe is home to Ke$ha, Bonnie McKee, Juicy J, Becky G and G.R.L., among others.
Dr. Luke is among the most successful songwriter-producers to emerge since the turn of the millennium having helmed 29 No. 1 singles -- among them were seven hits recorded by Katy Perry, including "Teenage Dream" and "California Gurls," two by Britney Spears (“Till the World Ends,” “Hold It Against Me),” Kelly Clarkson (“Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes”) and, most recently, Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball.”
