Tupac Biopic Taps Newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr. for Lead Role

Filming of Morgan Creek's Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez On Me, is underway and the actor playing the leading role has been revealed to be unknown actor Demetrius Shipp, Jr.
There's only one Biggie Smalls! Of course, we mean the actual late rapper — but we're also talking about his on screen portrayer Jamal Woolard! The actor will be reprising his role as Christopher Wallace in the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me, which follows the story of the rapper's rise to stardom, his time at Death Row Records, and his 1996 slaying in Las Vegas! Woolard totally nailed playing the East Coast rap legend back in 2009 in the titular role of Notorious!
We're told the biopic covers the rapper's entire life, including his murder in 1996.The Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me will star an actor cast, it seems, almost exclusively because he looks just like the man. Demetrius Shipp Jr., who will play Shakur in the film All Eyez on Me, has a single professional acting credit to his name from the upcoming TV movie #Unlock’d. While casting an unknown isn’t necessarily something to be met with sneers or cynicism, it seems Shipp may have been cast purely for his looks.

Demetrius Shipp Jr. portrays Tupac Shakur in "All Eyez on Me,"
Just four days after filming began on Dec. 17 for a movie about the life of hip hop legend Tupac Shakur, the recently-finished script was shown by an alleged hacker to an undercover federal agent.
TMZ broke the news with exclusive photos, while Shipp, Jr. has shared several more photos and videos from the film's set. So far Shipp, Jr.'s film credits are limited to the made-for-TV movie #unlock'd, but what he might lack in experience he makes up for in his resemblance to the late hip-hop icon.

Production sources tell us Demetrius' father worked in the music biz, and crossed paths with Tupac when Demetrius was a kid, and he's been a huge fan ever since.
We're told producer L.T. Hutton approached Demetrius to star as the rapper in no small part because of the obvious similarities. He immediately took some crash acting classes ... 4 times a week.
