Nearly 25 years after music legend D.O.C. dropped his debut album, the ghostwriter known for penning Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg hits is preparing to take his pen game up a notch in an upcoming series called "Hip Hop Draft."
According to D.O.C., the show will center on his Dallas, Texas roots and utilize his talent to help upcoming artists make a name for themselves.
"You know, you can't let go of the dream that easy, man," D.O.C. said in an interview, referring to his tragic 1989 car accident. "They all say you've got such a story, you've got such a story to tell and it's so powerful and it's so positive and that's where I'm at right now. Dallas-Fort Worth is where my heart is. I want to put the young, deserving people from the city and give them the benefit of those experiences and see if I can get some shine down here because they deserve it too. I'm trying to put these guys together and make some music and change some lives around this motherf*cker because I've done it before." (Playboy Magazine)
The music vet also talked about how involved he was on working alongside N.W.A. through their fame and notoriety days.
"Rap was changing from 'Parents Just Don't Understand' to 'Kids Just Don't Give A F*ck,' D.O.C. explained. "Dre takes me to the studio and I meet, Eazy, Ren and Yella and Dre puts on this drum beat and he says, 'Can you write me something?' I took about 10, 15 minutes and that song was, 'We Want Eazy,' it ended up being the guy's first single. ... The whole West Coast movement changed direction the night I had that accident. Once that sh*t happened, I just wasn't there. I didn't care about anything but getting drunk, getting high and trying to get away from that pain of not being able to do the one thing that I was good at." (Playboy Magazine)
According to a press release, the series will cater to heavily populated cities throughout the nation.

Last summer, West Coast rapper Locksmith crowned D.O.C. SOHH Underrated.
"I would say D.O.C. is my pick for SOHH Underrated. He's on there because, of course he wrote a lot of things for N.W.A. and he wrote a lot of Eazy-E's lyrics, but his album was f*cking incredible. He had one album and of course he got into that accident where his throat [got messed up.] But that [No One Could Do It Better] album? It was so, man. To be from the West Coast, his lyrics? Ice Cube was raw, uncut and street and you know D.O.C. was like that pure lyricist. He could destroy cats on the East Coast. You know what I mean? And then the album? It was just an incredible album. People tend to forget about that. They really tend to forget about that. He didn't get to release a lot of singles off that album because, of course, before it was released he got into that accident and didn't really get to promote it. The album is a classic. The music is incredible and the lyrics and the way he flows on it are just like [incredible.]" (SOHH Underrated)
