Larry King to Launch Talk Show on Russian News Channel
Larry King, one of the western world's best known political interviewers, has landed a new gig -- on the Kremlin-backed English-language TV channel Russia Today.
King's new “mold-breaking” political show Politics with Larry King launches next month on Russia's RT and will be no-holds-barred, according to the channel's editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan.
"Whether a president or an activist or a rock star was sitting across from him, Larry King never shied away from asking the tough questions, which makes him a terrific fit for our network,” Simonyan said Wednesday.
King's career spans 56 years since he began as a local radio reporter in Florida and he has more than 50,000 interviews under his belt. The broadcast veteran's veteran says the show will break new ground.
King will not shy away from causing controversy in the show or using his authority to give a chance to hear voices other media ignore, RT says.
“I have always been passionate about government and issues that impact the public, and I’m thrilled at the opportunity to talk politics with some of the most influential people in Washington and around the country,” King said.
“I have interviewed every U.S. president since Nixon, and lest people forget, I helped usher Ross Perot into the national conversation during the 1992 presidential contest," he added. "I appreciate the importance of providing a platform to those with real alternative visions for our country’s future.”
King left CNN in 2010 after hosting his trademark show, Larry King Live, for a quarter of a century. He says he will again appear in his signature red suspenders on the new talk show.
RT will air the new show produced by Ora.tv in June as well as ‘Larry King Now,’ which launched on Hulu and Ora.TV last year.
